Red Brain, Blue Brain: Republicans and Democrats Process Risk Differently, Research Finds

Political parties have always grouped like minded people together to make difficult decisions about the
current state and future of the nation; however, these people neurologically may share many more similarities than you would believe. It is commonly thought that race, genetics, location, and parental influence are the main factors in determining one's political standing but research on risk taking and the brain has shown that depending which side of the brain is more active during risk taking a person is far more likely with 82.9% accuracy in the study to be of their respective political party. A portion of the right brain called the right amygdala was shown to be strongly active in Republicans and is generally associated with fear, anxiety and orienting attention to external queues. Democrats showed far more activity in the left insula which is often associated with social skills and self-awareness.  The study also found that conservatives showed a higher response to negative images and were shown to fixate on them.  Researchers determined that the defensive nature of conservatism and social awareness of liberals directly correlate to the areas of the brain that were stimulated during the study.  The ability to judge a person's political standing and ideals due to the level of brain stimulation in these areas could have a an impact on the way political parties go about screening potential candidates for positions of power.  Genetic models which were shown to be the most accurate prior to this study now are being re-evaluated to put this new finding into account.  Political science can only benefit if voters can be more accurately analyzed.
