Facebook users have taken a break from the social network

The survey of 1,006 adults found that 61% of current Facebook users have taken a break from the social network that lasted several weeks or more. 21% of these users said they took their break from the site because they were too busy to visit, while 10% said they took a break because they just weren't interested in the site. 9% cited too much drama as the cause of their departure, while 8% recognized that they were spending too much time on Facebook and decided to give the social network a rest as a result.

It is bad news for Facebook; however, it is kinds of good news for us.
Facebook is a good and powerful social network tool. But most people spend too much time on that. Personal, I spend a lot of time on that, for those times, I could do something else; even I can just walk around. That would be much better for my eyes.  For us, we already sit in front of the computer for the whole day.  For those people who using Facebook as their social tool, they should have enough time for the really social network, like talking to people face to face.
Everything has two sides. It has good side and also has bad side. Same for technology, nowadays, the technology becomes more and more powerful; however, people should not entirely rely on these new technologies.  Even it is really helpful and useful, it has to have something bad to people.

    1. I'm not surprised by this turn of events for social media. We tend to move toward change because we are so accustomed to change (change becomes attractive, is desired), and the same old thing over and over again gets boring. I myself am a Facebook user. When I first made an account, I couldn't help myself but check to see if I got a notification or a friend request because at that point in time, it was a novel idea. Facebook has created a convenient interface where instant messaging, playing interactive games with peers and family, and keeping contact with those who may live in another country, among others things, is all possible. However, with updates being different versions of essentially the same thing, the concept is no longer novel; rather, it becomes commonplace. There was AOL Instant Messenger, Yahoo Messenger, Meebo, Myspace,....and now Facebook. All these forms of media were/are basically versions of the same thing with a few tweaks. In a couple of years there will be another form of social media that catches our attention, but it will only be a matter of time before such a form is also replaced.

  2. Facebook despite its numerous layout and policy changes has not implemented anything revolutionary since its launch back in 2004. People are constantly looking for new ways to interact with each other and with such a low percentage of communication coming from the content, Facebook needs to succeed where google+ failed. Facebook implemented a video chat service two years ago utilizing skype and many people looked down upon this looking for an in browser solution. I believe that g+ had the right idea with the way users could group video chat and share online content with each other in real time and it is now time for Facebook to take advantage of its large share in the social networking industry.
