The Doctor Is In (well, Virtually In)

Advances in technology and communication have given one doctor the ability to asses clients via virtual methods. Dr. Jay Parkinson founded the company Sherpaa which serves as a virtual doctors office that manages communication through emails and text messages. He thought that his practice would be publicly ridiculed after a viral article mocked him; however, interest skyrocketed. Companies like Twitter and Facebook have joined his clientele being drawn by far more affordable rates and 24/7 service. Dr. Parkinson has even let his license lapse because he dislikes the stress that in-person visits bring. Online medical practice currently has very little regulation and public concerns about quality of care and accuracy will most likely lead to legislation as similar medical practices take form. The network also includes current providers and insurance companies who will lose out on clients due to the rising popularity among companies. It will be interesting to see if attempts will be made to bring similar practices to the public and how it will differ.
